Virginia Trekkers

The Virginia Trekkers project started as part of our annual Professional Development plans in our district.  David Clough, Alfonso Favale, Brad Fernald, and myself wanted to create resources that were standards based and student friendly.  The Virginia Trekkers have become an important part of our job within our district and the resources we have created are being used across the country.

Each of the videos that are created are standards based and chosen based on specific student data relating to those standards.  Each video that is published is accompanied by helpful links that teachers can use on future projects, an interactive activity, and additional information about the subject matter discussed in the video.  The site currently hosts over 60 podcasts that can be used in classrooms across the county.

The site’s traffic has steadily increased since going live in 2007.  The site’s address is shared on social media sites and shared by word-of-mouth since this project is part of our teaching jobs and not a for-profit endeavor.  The site has accumulated over 10 million hits.
